Age: Filly, an early teenager in maturity.

Species: Pegasus

Pelt Color: Silvery white, a bit lighter than the color of a pre-rain sky.

Mane/Tail Color & Style: Dark sky blue. They tend to be a bit messy at times, since she doesn't care much about styling them, but are never tangled or obviously unkempt. She wears then in a jaunty, shaggy style, but her bangs never get long enough to stray into her eyes.

Eye Color: A bright blue that variegates to a slightly lighter hue.

Cutie Mark: A corked inkbottle with a four pointed star as a label. Ref.

Physique: Slim, and very feminine looking.

Residence: Cloudsdale, though she hopes to someday live in Canterlot, where she's heard there are many wonderful libraries and writers.

Occupation: Student, and works on her poetry in her free time.

Motivation: Shimmer's motivation in life is words. She loves to learn new ones, and weave the ones she knows into smooth tapestries of poetry.

Likes: White roses, Ink, feathers, birds, dictionaries, reading, music, stars, candles, summer nights and birch trees.

Dislikes: Non-readers, ponies who think they're better than other ponies, being told to go to bed, thunderstorms, drizzly days and spiders.

Character Summary:

Before she discovered her special talent, Shimmer used to think she would follow in her parents' footsteps and become a worker in the weather factory like both of them. Her father had other ideas though, and eventually, so did she.

As soon as she was old enough, Shimmer's father quickly enrolled her in flight school. He hoped she would have a talent for fancy flying, a career where he thought she could be very successful.

But even though Shimmer did master the basic flying skills quickly, she flew more for transportation and for pleasure, never thinking about showing off with special tricks. She just wasn't that kind of pony. The day Shimmer truly started on the path to finding her cutie mark was the day she fell from the sky.

Well, sort of. She only really fell halfway.

It was a beautiful sunny day in Cloudsdale and Shimmer Star was headed off to flight school, like any other day, but when she got there, it was horrible. She had to work on the only flight move she couldn't seem to do. A flip.

Shimmer hated flips. She felt dizzy whenever she did them, and she always finished in the most awkward positions. That day, Shimmer did so many her head was practically spinning, at that was before she did her absolute worst one. Shimmer flipped one more time, trying to get the hang of it, but didn't realize what position she had finished in until a few seconds after. She was headed downward. And she couldn't stop.

Shimmer fell, twirling through the air until she miraculously hit a cloud-house, and punched right through the roof, landing on the inside. Across the floor of the room, there was a Pegasus pony that had his back to Shimmer as he played a piano, his deep voice singing to the melody. The older pony, whose house it was, only noticed Shimmer after he had finished the song, and turned around.

"Oh, hello little foal," The stallion said in his guttural but kind voice, "Do you like my music?" Shimmer nodded enthusiastically, her eyes still widened in surprise from the fall and her unexpected visit to the pianist. She had found her passion: music, and the beautiful lyrics that went along with it. Shimmer loved those melodic words from the first time she heard them.

The stallion whose house she'd fallen into helped her back home. She didn't meet him again, but she never forgot the music. After school she would work hard on making songs to sing, but she wasn't very good at the making of the melodies. It wasn't until one day, rather frustrated at her latest song, which had words but not music to go along with it, did she realize it was the lyrics -or poetry- that she was truly was her special talent. That was the day she got her cutie mark. An inkbottle, symbolizing that she could shape that ink into words, and those words into amazing poetry.

Shimmer Star is a lively pony, who laughs a lot and always tries to be nice. She's very loyal, and always stands up for her friends no matter what. If pushed, Shimmer can be snappy and grumpy, but she almost always has high spirits. She's a fun pony to be with.
